Am I allowed to host multiple domains on my shared hosting account?
What is the difference between an add-on domain and a parked domain? |
Yes.
You have two ways of using domains on shared accounts.
One is an add-on domain. This will mean that www.domain1.com and www.domain2.com will show 2 entirely different sites. It will create a subdirectory within your public_html folder that you can specify. Under this, it will create your new domain's own cgi-bin directory, and even set up an FTP account for it. Using that FTP account will deny access to any folders below the created directory.
The standard plans automatically allow additional add-on domains free of charge: Economy Plan: 2 additional add-on domains allowed Standard Plan: 3 additional add-on domains allowed Premium Plan: 4 additional add-on domains allowed Deluxe Plan: 5 additional add-on domains allowed Additional add-on domains my be purchased for any plan. There is a one time $15 fee per additional domain.
The second type is a parked domain. This will mean that www.domain1.com and www.domain2.com will both show the exact same content. They are "parked" on top of each other. All plans offer unlimited parked domains. |
